What are the different types of braces?
The most commonly known orthodontic treatment is braces: an orthodontic appliance used to straighten teeth and correct bad bites. Braces can be prescribed for teens, adults, and children who have permanent teeth. They may be used in conjunction with other orthodontic appliances prescribed to widen the palate or jaws or to shape the teeth and jaws.

How long does it take to straighten teeth properly?
In most cases, our system can safely and effectively straighten teeth and correct bites in one and a half to two years.
Is it necessary to pull teeth to get the best results?
Although extractions are necessary in some cases, it is now possible to effectively treat most cases without extracting teeth.
When is the best time to begin orthodontics?
Although Dr. Huntsman can enhance a smile at any age, there is an optimal time period to begin treatment. Beginning treatment at this time ensures the greatest result and the least amount of time and expense. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. At this early age, orthodontic treatment may not be necessary, but vigilant examination can anticipate the most advantageous time to begin treatment.
Orthodontist or general dentist?
An orthodontist and a general dentist practicing orthodontics are both dentists. They are both given the same license to practice. There is no additional special certificate required to be able to practice orthodontics. The two doctors are differentiated in how they learn orthodontics. An orthodontist is awarded a postgraduate degree after taking two years of orthodontic study at a dental school sanctioned by the ADA. A general dentist can obtain comprehensive orthodontic knowledge by taking postgraduate courses, most of which are sanctioned by the ADA. Nevertheless, general dentists should not do orthodontics if they have not taken enough postgraduate courses to adequately treat cases. What techniques should be used and who should be doing it are areas that can confuse a patient in the process of deciding which office to go to.
